Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Miguel Angel Marin, aged 21 from Tallahassee, was taken into custody early Sunday after reportedly assaulting two staff members at a downtown bar and subsequently damaging an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) patrol car.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on October 5, Marin allegedly barged past a staff member positioned at the entrance of Arcade Bar (15 N. Main Street) and was being removed from the premises when he reportedly grabbed the staffer by the throat, pushing him and tearing his shirt.

Once outside, Marin reportedly charged at another employee, and as that worker tried to halt Marin’s advance, Marin allegedly seized the employee’s head, leaving the second victim with facial scratches.

A Gainesville Police Department officer noted that surveillance footage captured Marin sprinting towards the second staff member and grabbing his face while the victim attempted to fend off Marin by hitting him.

Post Miranda, Marin declined to answer questions without a lawyer.

Upon being transported to the detention facility, Marin allegedly assaulted several detention officers, prompting them to use force for control. He was then taken to a hospital for further examination and was reportedly cleared to return to jail by medical personnel. During the transport back, Marin allegedly kicked the patrol vehicle’s door, bending the door and its frame, rendering the vehicle “unusable for transport.”

Marin faces charges of property damage under $200 with a prior conviction, classified as a felony. He has an undisclosed criminal past in another state, faces an active out-of-state arrest warrant, and is undergoing pre-trial oversight in Jefferson County. Judge Craig DeThomasis has set his bail at $1,000 for the battery offenses and $2,500 for the property damage charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
