DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Georgetown resident was sentenced to 18 years in prison following a guilty plea to the repeated sexual abuse of a minor over the past two years.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office reported that Logan Black, 27, pleaded guilty on October 1 to a Class X felony charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Court documents indicate he faced two charges for this offense, with one being dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
In the courtroom, prosecutors detailed that the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department received a report of the abuse on August 31, 2024. The victim, under 13, disclosed that Black abused her on that day and again on September 7, 2023.
In a victim impact statement, the victim’s mother said Black had groomed the victim for several years in order to gain trust.
“This child showed extraordinary courage by coming forward to tell the truth,” stated Jacqueline Lacy, Vermilion County State’s Attorney. “Their bravery not only made justice possible in this case, but will help protect others from harm. My office is committed to giving victims a voice and holding those who prey on our most vulnerable citizens fully responsible.”
Black, who has been incarcerated since his arrest, received credit for these 13 months. The remainder of his sentence will be served at 85% capacity, and he could face between three years and life on parole following his prison release.
