KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City deli owner is seeing a jump in sales after Jason Kelce recently paid his shop a visit.

The retired Philadelphia Eagles center posted about the food and his experience on social media, creating quite the buzz.

The proprietor of Peter May’s House of Kielbasa shared that their shop is consistently bustling. They cater to loyal patrons and newcomers alike, many of whom have discovered the deli thanks to Jason Kelce’s recommendation.

The deli, known for their polish sandwiches and sausage.

“Polish sandwiches, he was like, ‘I just want to try it different ways,'” owner Mike Loges said.

When Jason Kelce walked through their doors on a recent Friday afternoon, he wanted to try a bite and scored several plates.

Loges said Kelce and his team found the shop online. Kelce shared videos on social media, also saying, “It is an absolute gem of an establishment.”

“Everybody wants to know about him and that’s the fun part,” Loges said. “He wanted to know about us and our heritage and our story.”

The shop opened in 1929, 96 years ago.

Loges is the fourth generation to take over the family business.

“There’s a gratifying feeling knowing I’m doing something right,” Loges remarked. “I’m continuing a tradition, spanning four generations, of crafting simple yet quality sausage.”

Currently, Loges explained, they generally sell around 200 to 300 pounds of sausage weekly. However, during the Christmas season, that figure rises dramatically to about 2,500 to 3,000 pounds each week.

Loges said Kelce’s review sparked a bump in sales and garnered nationwide attention.

One customer called from Seattle asking for sausage. They shipped meat out the next day.

“It’s what every small business owner dreams of,” Loges said. “I just need that one person to recognize us.”

“It’s wonderful to receive such visibility, reminding everyone how long this business has been a part of the Kansas City community,” noted Scott Eastin.

Eastin is from Blue Springs and gets the burger and fries. Loges said Kelce tried that too, and the door’s always open.

“He’s always welcome here,” Loges added. “It’s like any of our customers. They become family over time.”

If you’re interested in trying Peter May’s House of Kielbasa, it sits at the corner of East 17th Street and Bristol Avenue.
