A tragic incident unfolded in Texas when a woman was fatally shot in a PetSmart parking lot following a dispute over not saying “thank you” after a door was held open for her, according to police reports.
Dallas police informed FOX 4 that Cecilia Simpson, aged 41, was shot multiple times near a PetSmart in Dallas on Tuesday at approximately 1 p.m. As per an arrest affidavit, a witness described how Simpson had held the door open for Keona Zachyua Hampton, aged 22, at a nearby Five Below store.
Simpson reportedly became upset when Hampton did not express gratitude for her gesture, sparking a conflict. Subsequently, Simpson and her daughter left for PetSmart, located within the same shopping area.
Upon entering the PetSmart store, Simpson mentioned to the employees that Hampton was trailing them. Hampton allegedly pursued them into the store and confronted Simpson’s daughter. Although Hampton initially left the store, she returned shortly after to reignite a quarrel with Simpson.

An ER nurse who saw the incident told FOX 4 her perspective on what happened.
“The shooter was insisting, ‘Come outside. Let’s handle this outside. Let’s fight outside.’ The mother and daughter were urging her to leave,” a witness recounted. “In an effort to defuse the situation, the mother and daughter tried to get to their car, but the confrontation escalated, leading the woman to draw a gun and shoot.”

The nurse said she performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
“The daughter was beside her mother throughout the ordeal. It’s incredibly difficult, as the cries of a child for her mom are haunting and unforgettable,” she said. “Personally, I’ve fought back tears, as I reflect on my own mother from high school, who played a vital role in my life and inspired my career as a nurse. My family has been integral in shaping who I am.”
