Young woman disappears from job after being 'harassed': Cops

A young woman from Philadelphia is missing, and authorities express particular concern as she had mentioned to family and friends that she was being harassed in the days before she vanished.

Kada Scott, aged 23, was last seen on Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. on the 8300 block of Rodney Street, announced the Philadelphia Police Department in a press release. She is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with a slim build, brown eyes, and black hair.

The request for public assistance was issued by the department on Tuesday. There remains no trace of the woman depicted as “energetic” and sociable — with her current silence being “entirely uncharacteristic.”

Philadelphia Police Captain John Craig conveyed these sentiments on Wednesday at a press conference. He detailed that Scott was last seen by her mother on Saturday night as she left for work at The Terrace at Chestnut Hill, an assisted living center in the city where she had recently started working.

She was working the night shift beginning at 10 p.m., but when she didn’t return the following day, her family reported her missing.

“I just need her to come home and be safe,” her mother, Kim Matthews, expressed to local ABC affiliate WPVI, sharing that she has been unable to eat or sleep without knowing her daughter is secure. “That’s what I fear — she’s not safe.”

Craig said police know Scott left before her shift’s completion — in fact, she was seen leaving work in black scrubs shortly after arriving at the facility. Her car was left in the parking lot.

“What’s troubling about this case is, number one, you have a 23-year-old young lady who has completely disappeared. We have no cellphone activity or social media activity, and she’s not reached out to family or friends,” Craig said on Wednesday, per video recorded by Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU.

The police captain added that investigators have interviewed her coworkers and found “nothing too extravagant” in their responses. Still, he explained why authorities have more “concern” than usual.

“In the days prior to her disappearance, Ms. Scott related to family and friends that unknown individuals or a person had been harassing her via phone,” Craig said. “We’re investigating that. We’re trying to learn more.”

Posters displaying Scott’s face can be seen stuck to posts in Philadelphia, along with the words “Missing” and “Please share.”

Kevin Scott, Kada Scott’s father, told WPVI that they are posting the flyers as they try to make sense of the circumstances.

“She’s my oldest daughter. I love her,” he said. “These last few days have been crazy. Head spinning. Trying to figure out what’s going on.”

Craig asserted that the more people who are paying attention to the case and can provide any small piece of information to help find Scott, the better.

“If there’s 100 pieces to a puzzle, you may think your piece is insignificant, but without your piece, that jigsaw puzzle is not being solved,” he said. “So I would plead with you, whatever information you have, reach out to the police.”
