A home in the area had sustained major damage, and at least one car was in the wreckage.
Hanover Park police said a sedan driving on Woodlake Drive left the roadway and crashed into the home, causing significant structural damage.
The driver and a resident in the home were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The driver’s sister, Valerie Mele, said the 52-year-old woman is in the hospital with a broken arm.
Hanover Park police believe she may have had a medical emergency.
“They said that she was in an accident and hit a house,” Mele said.
Mele came to the scene, after she says officers knocked on her door and told her that her sister had driven through a home.
She came to look at the damage, and retrieve her sister’s belongings.
Neighbors say a couple lives in the home. Nearby residents saw a man pinned underneath the car.
According to neighbor Ryan Tarasiewicz, “I observed as they extracted him. He was wearing a neck brace, and his legs appeared to be injured, but he remained conscious.”
Neighbors also worked to clear the debris that was left scattered.
“They obliterated the trash cans, and there is pieces of carpet throughout the yards,” neighbor John Tarasiewicz said.
Crews worked to stabilize the home.
The car was removed Friday afternoon.
Police say they continue to investigate.
