On October 11, 2002, Jimmy Carter, along with The Carter Center, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their efforts to resolve global conflicts and promote human rights.

Back in 1906, the San Francisco Board of Education decided that Asian students in the city would attend separate schools. This decision was later reversed after President Theodore Roosevelt intervened and agreed to limit future Japanese immigration in return.
