A 29-year-old woman in Missouri has been taken into custody after she allegedly went to her former lover’s home, delivering a cooler supposedly containing a human fetus and telling him it was his child.

Makayla Annette Haedt was apprehended last week and is facing charges of felony first-degree harassment related to the incident, according to court records. As per a probable cause affidavit, around 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 18, deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a “deceased fetus in a cooler” at a residence on the 18000 block of Laddie Lane in Waynesville.

In discussions with authorities, the victim mentioned that he had been acquainted with Haedt “for years,” noting that the two had “been romantic with one another on and off,” but clarified they “never dated,” characterizing their involvement as “more of a fling.”

The victim recounted that Haedt had approached him two or three months prior, claiming to be pregnant. Despite her claim, he was skeptical, believing she was a “habitual liar.” Then, on the afternoon of Sept. 17, Haedt allegedly informed the victim via message that she had a miscarriage. Shortly afterward, she picked him up at his house, and they went out “to run errands” before returning to his place for a meal.

“Makayla [Haedt] then handed him food obtained from the Good Samaritan, at which point she gave him a red and white cooler secured with green tape, saying ‘here’s your kid,’ before driving off,” the affidavit states. “He informed me Makayla [Haedt] ‘didn’t show any sign of remorse or anything when she said it.’ [The victim] believed she was pulling a ‘cruel f—ed up joke’ and instead assumed it was a cooler filled with drinks but hesitated to inspect the contents.”

The victim confessed that he was frightened to open the cooler for almost two hours but eventually called a friend over, and together, they opened the container.

“After opening the cooler and observing the fetus, [the victim] then closed the cooler and called the Sheriffs office,” the affidavit says.

During the interview, authorities said the victim had tears in his eyes, appeared distraught, and kept making statements such as “this is the type of thing you see on the internet all the time, but don’t ever think it will happen to you” and “this is f—ed up, I’m sorry you guys had to see that.”

When describing what went through his mind after seeing the inside of the cooler, the victim said he was “shocked and couldn’t believe she would do something like that.”

Deputies said the cooler did appear to contain a human fetus and called a coroner to gather the container for evidence and testing.

The felony harassment charge stems from Haedt allegedly causing the victim severe emotional distress.

Haedt is being held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 28, records show.
