URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana High School’s football team will be handed a loss by forfeit for their scheduled game against Richwoods on Friday, Oct. 10, following an incident that led to the early end of the match due to a physical confrontation.

The Tigers were tied 14-14 against Peoria-Richwoods when a fight following a kickoff led to several ejections. The game was suspended due to Urbana not having enough eligible players to finish the game, and officials did not initially declare a result.

After further review, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) confirmed with WCIA that a 1-0 forfeit win was awarded to Richwoods, while Urbana suffers the loss. The defeat moves Urbana to 0-7 on the season.

Looking forward, IHSA also said both Urbana and Richwoods will have multiple players who will sit out heading into this weekend’s varsity games because of the ejections. However, IHSA expects that both teams will have enough players to play their Week 8 games as currently scheduled.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Peoria-Manual on Friday, Oct. 17.

WCIA reached out to Urbana High School for more information but did not receive an immediate response.
