Early Morning Dispute in Tampa Ends in Gunfire, Police Report

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An altercation in Tampa on Thursday morning escalated into gunfire, leaving one individual injured and another in police custody.

According to the Tampa Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on the 8200 block of North 14th Street.

Investigators reported that the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Blair, Jr., had a disagreement with an acquaintance. After instructing the man to leave, Blair watched as the individual began to ride away on his bicycle. At that moment, Blair allegedly went into his home to retrieve a firearm.

Authorities noted that Blair emerged from his residence carrying an unloaded gun in one hand and a magazine in the other.

As the situation unfolded, the other man started to return in Blair’s direction. Despite Blair’s command for him to halt, the man continued, prompting Blair to rack the empty gun in an attempt to intimidate him, according to police reports.

The man continued riding toward Blair, who then loaded his gun and cocked it again, according to the police department. Investigators said Blair shot the man after the man took a swing at him.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Blair was arrested and booked into the Orient Road Jail for one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
