Investigators are intensifying their appeal for information regarding the suspicious death of a toddler in Queensland last year, after uncovering discrepancies in earlier accounts they received.

The tragic situation unfolded when paramedics responded to a call at a residence on Staaten Street in Burpengary at approximately 2:40 p.m. on December 30, 2021. They found a 16-month-old boy in critical condition.

After being rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital, the young boy remained in a critical state and tragically succumbed to his injuries on January 8, 2022.

The Pine Rivers Child Protection Investigation Unit initially launched a probe into the incident, working in collaboration with the Child Trauma Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit.

Today, police revealed they have obtained fresh information pertinent to the investigation.

“Ongoing investigations have identified a number of inconsistencies from information initially provided,” according to a statement released by the police.

“Investigators are renewing their appeal for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or concerning behaviour in the vicinity of Staaten Street involving a male child in the lead up to Thursday, 30 December 2021 are urged to come forward.”
