NJ education board candidate runs over opponent’s lawn sign

A contender for a New Jersey Board of Education position faces charges after allegedly driving onto a New Providence lawn and damaging a campaign sign backing his rival.

The New Providence Police Department announced that Miguel Marshall is facing accusations of criminal mischief, reckless driving, lane discipline neglect, and leaving the scene without reporting the incident.

The suspect, Miguel Marshall, aged 43, reportedly moved from New York City to New Providence in 2020. He is said to have run over a sign supporting write-in candidate Rupa Kale on a Saturday afternoon, according to NJ.com.

Local resident Josephine Sharf, whose property was affected, voiced her concerns at a borough council meeting. She lamented the incident, calling it a violent and careless act, as reported by the local news outlet TAPinto.

According to the Daily Voice, Marshall had previously run for the school board in 2024 but finished last among the five candidates.

This year, Marshall joined forces with fellow candidate Steve Rossi to vie for the two vacant board seats. Their campaign emphasizes improving students’ physical and mental well-being. However, a website dedicated to promoting their candidacy was set to private as of Friday.

The election takes place Nov. 4.
