In a sweeping crackdown, driving privileges have been revoked for 5,500 commercial truck drivers across the United States after they failed basic English language assessments. This information comes from Israel Delgado Vallejo, who serves as the vice president of Mexico’s Northwest Chamber of Freight Transporters.

“We have documented 5,500 instances of licenses being suspended or marked out of service, and enforcement measures are becoming increasingly stringent,” explained Delgado Vallejo.

This development follows a directive issued six months ago by President Trump, who reinstated an existing law. The law requires commercial truck drivers to possess sufficient English proficiency to read road signs and communicate effectively with law enforcement officials.

In an interview with El Sol Newspaper in Tijuana, Delgado Vallejo expressed his belief that this vigorous enforcement will persist through the year, particularly in states like Texas, where the majority of these suspensions have occurred.
