SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah State University (SSU) has been chosen as one of 30 institutions to join the IBM SkillsBuild AI Freshmen HBCU Initiative. This program aims to provide students with essential skills in artificial intelligence.

All first-year students will now take part in the IBM course titled “Getting Started with Artificial Intelligence.” This three-hour course, now integrated into SSU’s First-Year Experience, introduces students to AI concepts, their practical uses, and the ethical issues surrounding them.

“By implementing this initiative across the campus, students gain access to more than 1,000 free courses, paid micro-internships, mentoring, and personalized learning pathways that align with real-world careers,” stated Marcus S. Cox, SSU’s provost and vice president of academic affairs.

Upon completing the course, students will unlock access to a wealth of additional IBM learning resources, with over 1,000 opportunities available.
