GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have detained William Leo King, 20, following allegations that he brandished a firearm at a woman during an altercation in Levy County.

The incident unfolded around 9:38 p.m. on October 17 when a Levy County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to investigate claims that King had threatened a woman with a gun in Bronson. The deputy observed a white Jeep departing the scene along State Road 24 and proceeded to pursue the vehicle.

According to the victim, the confrontation began with a verbal dispute in Chiefland. She explained that during the drive, she was seated in the back while King operated the vehicle erratically, allegedly to prevent her from exiting.

The woman recounted that they paused at a gas station in Bronson, where King allegedly retrieved a handgun from a backpack in the trunk. She claims he threatened her life if she didn’t exit the Jeep. Following this, he purportedly resumed driving east on SR 24, eventually dropping her at a nearby intersection.

Following a traffic stop on SW Archer Road, and after being read his Miranda rights, King reportedly acknowledged the argument with the victim in Chiefland. He stated that he repeatedly asked her to leave his vehicle, which she ultimately did in Bronson. King, however, denied ever displaying a firearm during the incident.

A loaded handgun was reportedly found in the glove box of the Jeep and matched the description provided by the victim.

King has been charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no local criminal history, and Judge James Colaw set bail at $52,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
