The New York Police Department is actively searching for the parents of a baby girl discovered abandoned but alive at Manhattan’s Penn Station on a Monday morning. This unsettling incident has unfolded in one of the busiest transit hubs, drawing significant public concern.

Currently, the infant is receiving care at Bellevue Hospital, where she remains in stable condition. The NYPD has confirmed an ongoing investigation, emphasizing efforts to secure and review video footage that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding her abandonment.

The discovery of the child occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on a stairway leading to the southbound No. 1, 2, and 3 trains, right at the 34th Street–Penn Station stop. This bustling area is an unexpected setting for such a distressing event.

Authorities were alerted to the situation by an anonymous call. The caller reported the baby had been left unattended on the steps at the intersection of West 34th Street and 7th Avenue, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Amidst the everyday hustle and bustle of Penn Station, where construction and daily commuters weave through, this incident stands out, reminding us of the unexpected moments that can unfold in the heart of New York City.

When first responders from the FDNY and NYPD arrived, they found the baby wrapped in a blanket, conscious and alert. The baby was then taken to Bellevue Hospital.

According to Fox 5, the baby was found with her umbilical cord still attached, was wrapped only in a sheet but was alert and conscious.

Investigators are now reviewing surveillance footage from Penn Station in hopes of identifying who left the baby there.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and the identity of the infant’s parents remains unknown.

Per New York’s Safe Haven Law, parents are allowed to legally and safely surrender newborns at hospitals, police precincts, or fire stations without facing criminal charges as long as the child is left in the care of responsible personnel.
