The Texas Secretary of State, Jane Nelson, announced that her office has conducted an extensive review of the state’s voter registration records using the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE database to verify citizenship.

Through this process, Nelson reported that over 2,000 individuals were flagged as potential noncitizens registered to vote in Texas.

“Participation in our elections is reserved for eligible United States citizens only,” stated Nelson in a press release on Monday. She emphasized the significance of gaining direct access to such data, calling it a “game changer” for ensuring the accuracy of voter lists and confirming the citizenship status of registered voters.
