In a tragic turn of events, all eastbound lanes on a segment of Interstate 8 in central San Diego remained shut on Tuesday morning following a fatal series of accidents from the previous night. The incidents claimed the lives of a La Mesa police officer and another motorist.
The sequence of collisions began shortly before 10:30 p.m. when a vehicle collided with another, causing it to overturn in the eastbound lanes near Fairmount Avenue. Subsequently, a third vehicle crashed into the overturned car.
