A woman has confessed to killing a man, whose dismembered remains were discovered near a bustling railway, claiming she acted out of self-defense.

Kasha McIver, 39, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her housemate Matthew Warrington in the Victorian Supreme Court on Thursday alongside her co-offender Dylan Wyatt, 38.

Brendan Dalton, aged 54, faced conviction for the same crime following a trial held in June.

During the proceedings, exchanges between the individuals involved were presented. In one message, Dalton suggested inflicting harm on Warrington, stating that he had crossed McIver and was unaware of the consequences awaiting him.

In a police interview, McIver explained that the events unfolded because she felt coerced by Wyatt, describing him as both murderous and psychotic, insisting she acted to protect herself.

Her lawyer, Ruth Shann SC, argued that McIver was terrified of Wyatt due to his alleged physical abuse leading up to and following the incident.

Shann informed the court that McIver endured a traumatic childhood and has been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder, a severe personality disorder, and an acquired brain injury.

Shann’s submissions will continue on Friday morning before lawyers for Wyatt and Dalton outline their defence to Justice James Gorton.
