One hospitalized after suspected shooting at Austin public library prompting massive police response

A serious incident unfolded at the Austin Central Library in Texas on Saturday afternoon, leaving one individual hospitalized. According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the victim sustained significant injuries but is currently in stable condition.

Authorities received an emergency call shortly after 12:05 p.m., reporting a shooting at the library. The caller mentioned hearing a gunshot, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

The suspect, identified by officials as a thin Black male carrying two black bags, was apprehended in South Austin shortly before 1:30 p.m.

In a statement released on social media, the APD clarified, “This was NOT an active shooter situation, but rather an isolated incident involving one suspect and one victim.”

A shelter in place warning was issued, but has since been lifted, police said.

The Austin Fire Department confirmed to Fox News Digital they responded to the scene with EMS.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and APD did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
