On Wednesday, the prosecutor revealed that arrests had been made on Saturday evening, noting one suspect was attempting to depart the country via Roissy Airport.

Initial reports from French outlets BFM TV and Le Parisien indicated two individuals were detained, though Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau did not specify the exact number of arrests.

In a brazen heist over the weekend, thieves made off with jewels worth €88 million ($157 million) from the world’s most frequented museum, completing their theft in under eight minutes—a crime that has left the global community in disbelief.

French authorities recounted how the culprits employed a basket lift to ascend the Louvre’s façade, pried open a window, shattered display cases, and made their escape on Sunday morning. The museum’s director condemned the incident as a “terrible failure.”

Beccuau confirmed the involvement of the anti-gang brigade in the apprehensions.

She expressed regret over the premature release of details, cautioning that such leaks could disrupt the efforts of over 100 investigators who are working tirelessly to recover the stolen jewels and capture all those involved.
