Shocking Truth Revealed: Woman's Fabricated Burglary and Assault Story Unveiled

EL PASO, Texas — On Tuesday, October 21, Maribel Wong, a 52-year-old resident, was taken into custody for allegedly fabricating a story about a burglary and assault that she claimed took place the previous month, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Wong now faces a charge for making a false report to a peace officer and has been detained at the El Paso County Detention Facility with her bond set at $4,000.

The incident in question occurred on September 9, when deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 900 block of Stamfordham Drive. Wong had called the authorities, alleging that an unknown assailant had broken into her home and attacked her.

However, the initial investigation conducted by the deputies did not uncover any supporting evidence for Wong’s claims. This prompted a more thorough inquiry by detectives, who discovered discrepancies between Wong’s statements and the evidence they gathered. Among the evidence were text messages Wong alleged were sent by the supposed intruder, which further contradicted her account.

Upon further investigation, detectives found inconsistencies between Wong’s statements and newly obtained evidence, including text messages she claimed were sent by a suspect.

Detectives later determined the messages had been sent by Wong herself. When confronted, she admitted to fabricating the story, according to EPCSO.

“When someone files a false report, it takes valuable time and resources away from real victims and ongoing investigations,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that filing a false report is a serious offense and will not be tolerated.”
