The people already putting their hands up for 2028 White House race

There are still more than 365 days to run before the midterms of Donald Trump’s second stint in the new-look White House, but the US campaign cycle never entirely shuts down.

In recent days, California Governor Gavin Newsom and former presidential candidate Kamala Harris have stirred the political waters with hints of future aspirations, though they haven’t yet officially announced any plans to run for higher office.

While this isn’t a prediction or a roadmap, it’s worth considering the prominent figures who are indicating their potential interest in becoming the 48th President of the United States. The landscape is dynamic, and several candidates are emerging as possibilities.

One notable figure, despite not holding a government role, maintains a significant presence on the political scene. He is deeply involved in his family’s business operations and has been a familiar face on the campaign trail.

The notion of political dynasties isn’t new in American history. The Kennedys, Clintons, and Bushes, for instance, have shown that family legacies can indeed reach the highest office, with the Bush family successfully installing two presidents.

Among Democrats, there is no shortage of potential contenders. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent voice on the left, stands alongside other notable figures such as Senator Cory Booker and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Pritzker, in particular, has demonstrated resilience against MAGA critiques and has stood firm in his opposition to the deployment of federal troops to Chicago.

And in the realm of the unexpected, some betting markets are entertaining long-shot candidates, offering odds as high as 101-1 on the prospect of a President Taylor Swift. While this might seem far-fetched, it underscores the unpredictable nature of political tides.

In the chimerical, chaotic world of modern American politics, it might not be the silliest thing to punt on.
