BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Monday evening, Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy officially launched his campaign for another term in office.

Cassidy, who first took office in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022, is seeking to continue his leadership role.

In a conversation with News Channel 11, Cassidy highlighted several key achievements during his tenure. These include overseeing the construction of a new jail, introducing school resource officers into local schools, conducting the investigation into the Megan Boswell murder case, upgrading departmental technology, and decreasing the number of unserved processes.

“My goal is to ensure another four years of advancement and success for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, enhancing the safety of our community,” Cassidy stated.

The sheriff expressed that the new 784-bed jail will provide opportunities to implement more rehabilitation programs aimed at reducing repeat offenses among inmates.

“Having the space makes a difference,” Cassidy explained. “We’ve already partnered with organizations like Families Free and Sullivan County Anti-Drug, and we’ve opened our doors to various non-profits.”

“Each pod is going to have a classroom in it. So we’re just going to have a room to expand on what we’re doing now.”

Cassidy said the goal is to help inmates become “productive members of society.”

“We want them to gain custody of their children back. We want them to have employment. Make a living, be taxpaying, productive members of society.”

Cassidy said he wants to keep his “foot on the gas.”

“I want to thank Sullivan County for the trust that you have in me for being your sheriff,” he said. “And, I want four more years so we can finish what we started here. And I think we’ve got a good thing going.”

County primary elections will be held on May 5, 2025, followed by the general election on Aug. 6, 2025.
