A 37-year-old New York woman has been sentenced to several years in prison after nearly killing her father in a violent altercation over a household issue. Kimberly Mann, from Otisville, New York, was ordered by an Orange County judge to serve a seven-year term in a state correctional facility for the brutal assault on her father, which took place last year, as reported by authorities.

After completing her prison sentence, Mann will also have to undergo five years of supervised release.

As part of a plea deal, Mann admitted to first-degree assault, acknowledging that she “intentionally caused serious physical injury” to her father using a “dangerous instrument.”

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office, in a statement, detailed the events of August 14, 2024. Mann engaged in a heated dispute with her mother concerning a blocked toilet at their residence in Otisville, approximately 75 miles northwest of New York City.

Prosecutors revealed that when Mann’s father attempted to intervene in the argument, Mann pulled out a knife concealed in her clothing and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest. The attack left him with life-threatening injuries, including collapsed lungs and significant blood loss.

Mount Hope Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find Mann sitting outside, smoking a cigarette. She reportedly informed the officers that “her father was probably dying inside.”

Emergency medical personnel located the victim inside and rendered lifesaving aid as he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he survived his numerous wounds.

In a statement, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said the defendant’s “horrifying” actions amounted to a “nightmare.”

“Domestic violence is insidious and, as seen in this case, can be terrifyingly violent,” he said. “Cases such as this one are incredibly challenging, and while the defendant’s acceptance of responsibility saved the family from the trauma of recounting the incident at trial, the significant prison sentence imposed is necessary to underscore the seriousness of the defendant’s actions.”

Hoovler also thanked the Town of Mount Hope Police Department and the New York State Police for their efforts in the investigation and proceedings that led to Mann’s conviction.

Jail records showed that Mann remained in custody at the Orange County Jail as of Monday afternoon, the Times Union reported.
