SNAP deadline may be last straw for shutdown, Fetterman says

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has issued a stark warning about the looming impact of the federal government shutdown, highlighting that the cessation of SNAP benefits could affect tens of millions of Americans starting November 1st. This potential cutoff could bring significant hardship to those reliant on these benefits, he cautions.

Amidst the ongoing stalemate, Fetterman’s Democratic colleagues have remained firm in their stance, insisting that Republicans reinstate health care subsidies as a condition for reopening the government. However, Fetterman suggests a different approach: he proposes that the government should be reopened immediately, with health care negotiations to follow.

Without a resolution, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are at risk of being halted for approximately 42 million people, according to Fetterman.
