MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old has been taken into custody, accused of firing shots at a high school homecoming event in Marion County last month.

Zachary Sarrach faces multiple charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a concealed firearm, public discharge of a firearm, and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on September 27 during a bonfire party held in celebration of Forest High School’s homecoming.

Authorities report that Sarrach, who was present at the gathering, allegedly fired several shots at a juvenile following a physical confrontation.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire, officials confirmed.

Although witnesses at the scene were unable to identify the shooter, deputies discovered a social media video showing Sarrach with a firearm and firing shots at the victim.

In early October, an Ocala police detective contacted sheriff’s officials after seeing a “Can you identify” post and recognized Sarrach from a previous interaction, officials said.

Detectives said they discovered that Sarrach deactivated his social media accounts and expressed intentions to flee to Daytona Beach.

Sarrach on Tuesday was taken to the MCSO Criminal Investigations Division by his mother, and he admitted that he was armed with a firearm at the party and threatened to shoot at a group of people if they attempted to attack him.

Sarrach was arrested and taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
