Trump admin. nixes public service student loan relief for those involved in 'unlawful activities'

Trump Administration Withdraws Loan Relief for Public Service Students Engaged in ‘Unlawful Activities

On Thursday, the Trump administration unveiled a final rule set to alter the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. This change aims to exclude workers associated with organizations that partake in “unlawful activities” from qualifying for student loan forgiveness.

According to the administration, this move is intended to safeguard taxpayer interests. However, critics express concerns that the government might use this as an opportunity to target specific groups for political reasons, potentially restricting the financial relief available to educators, healthcare professionals, and other public service workers.

The administration has categorized “unlawful activities” as actions by groups that either “abet illegal immigration” or support gender transition procedures for minors.
