In a shocking incident at a sprawling brewery in Florida, a man is facing charges after allegedly killing his colleague on their very first workday together.

The Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jason Guthrie, 38, has been apprehended for the alleged murder of 22-year-old Antoine Autry. The announcement was made through an official press statement.

As of Friday, Guthrie was held in custody at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility.

The tragic event unfolded on a Thursday afternoon while both men were engaged in their initial day of work as contractors at the Anheuser-Busch brewery located in Jacksonville.

According to witnesses, there were no apparent signs of conflict between the two until the moment they heard Autry’s distressing cries claiming he had been stabbed. Observers then saw Guthrie fleeing the scene, as reported by Miami’s NBC affiliate WTVJ.

Authorities arrived at the location around 4:30 p.m., discovering Autry with a severe chest wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel rushed the victim to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Guthrie was “hiding inside one of the buildings on the plant,” when a K-9 unit discovered him as authorities searched the beer-making facility, according to authorities.

The suspect was detained and interviewed, though it is unclear if any conversations have aided investigators in their efforts.

Guthrie was on probation at the time of his arrest for an incident in 2020 where he allegedly stabbed a man outside of a liquor store after asking for money.

The defendant was subsequently charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and pleaded guilty in that case last year, according to local The CW affiliate WJXT.

The arrest report at the time said Guthrie “suffers schizophrenia and PTSD.”
