DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – In a harrowing case of alleged child abuse, authorities have arrested two young residents of Douglas County, both aged 20, in connection to the severe injuries of their 5-month-old infant.

The troubling situation came to light on August 24th when the infant was taken to an emergency room. There, healthcare professionals uncovered a shocking discovery: the child had sustained over 30 broken bones, all at varying stages of healing. This alarming revelation prompted law enforcement to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries.

As the investigation unfolded, William King and Amber Rivera were identified as the primary suspects. Both were subsequently arrested and charged, marking a significant step in the quest for justice for the infant.

  • The infant had spent the first four months of life in a NICU facility and had only been in the custody of the parents for approximately six weeks.
  • Interviews with pediatricians, family members, and witnesses led investigators to conclude that both parents were responsible for the injuries.
  • Medical professionals indicated that the injuries were consistent with prolonged and repeated abuse.

During a bond hearing presided over by Magistrate Judge Susan Camp, the gravity of the charges led to the denial of bond for both King and Rivera. The charges brought against them are in accordance with Georgia’s stringent laws aimed at protecting children from abuse.

They appeared before Magistrate Judge Susan Camp for a bond hearing, where bond was denied for both individuals.

The defendants are charged with the following offenses under Georgia law:

  • Aggravated Battery
  • Conspiracy to Commit a Felony
  • Cruelty to Children – 1st Degree
  • Cruelty to Children – 2nd Degree
  • Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Obstruction

The investigation is ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
