(KTLA) — A Halloween caper unfolded at a Los Angeles home, and the homeowner was most astonished by the age of one of the culprits involved in the candy heist.

Home security video, shared with KTLA by a Hyde Park resident, captured a group of trick-or-treaters visiting the porch around 8 p.m. on Friday. Several candy-filled buckets had been left out to treat neighborhood children.

The group was made up of five young children, all in costumes, accompanied by an adult woman also dressed in Halloween attire.

The woman can be heard encouraging the children to gather candy quickly, while also reminding them to “leave some for the other kids.”

Initially, the group helped themselves to a reasonable share of sweets and appeared to be leaving. But, in a surprising twist, one child returned to nab one of the two candy buckets from the table.

Following closely behind, the adult woman nonchalantly picked up the last remaining bucket, completing the candy snatch.

The child can be heard in the video telling the adult to take the other bucket of candy, despite the adult previously saying that they should leave some for other kids.

After leaving the table empty, the group left for good, presumably on the hunt for more sweets.

The resident who sent in the footage, meanwhile, says they are saddened by the fact that, even after indicating that they would leave some treats, the adult came back and did the opposite, complying with the child’s request to take the other bucket.

“It’s disappointing to see an adult encouraging and allowing this behavior on a night meant for kids to enjoy,” they said.

The resident also added that they filed a police report and that their cameras were able to capture the license plate of the car the group was traveling in.
