DV Victim Gets Walmart Employee’s Help to Escape Abusive Boyfriend

A courageous act by a Nebraska Walmart employee recently came to light, revealing how they played a pivotal role in rescuing a domestic violence victim from her perilous situation. The woman, aged 47, alleged that her boyfriend, Justis Barnhouse, had repeatedly strangled her and confiscated her phone to stop her from reaching out for help.

Desperate to escape Barnhouse’s grip and return to her home in Kansas, the victim had been seeking an opportunity to break free for two days, according to a statement from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office. Her chance came when she and Barnhouse visited a local Walmart one Tuesday afternoon.

Inside the store, the victim discreetly alerted a Walmart employee to her plight. The employee, sensing the urgency, followed her into a restroom where she recounted the harrowing details of the strangulation incidents. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the employee promptly contacted 911 for assistance.

Authorities were quick to respond, locating the woman, Barnhouse, and their camper at a nearby truck stop, just half a mile from the Walmart. Barnhouse was subsequently arrested and now faces serious charges, including assault by strangulation and domestic assault.

Barnhouse was arrested and charged with assault by strangulation and domestic assault.
