An Oklahoma woman is jailed on a first-degree murder charge after authorities say she shot her husband as he lay in bed overnight.

Salomi Derena Ochsner, 63, is accused of killing her 63-year-old husband, Jeff Ochsner.

The shooting occurred early Oct. 30 at a residence on East West County Road in Chattanooga, Oklahoma.

At approximately 5:35 a.m., Ochsner called Tillman County 911 and reported that she had “just shot and killed her husband of 40 years,” according to a probable-cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

The charging document includes accounts from the county sheriff’s office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

According to investigators, Ochsner said the shooting followed an alleged domestic violence attack the previous night.

“Salomi told dispatch that Jeff had ‘beat her head in last night,’” the affidavit states. She reportedly said he “was going to kill her,” that she had lost consciousness and that “it was her life or his.” She also told dispatchers she needed an ambulance and stitches because her head was bleeding.

Deputies arrived at the home around 7 a.m. and found Jeff Ochsner lying on his back in a bedroom, near a “pool of blood” on the bed, according to the affidavit.

“Jeff had no signs of life and was blue in color,” investigators wrote.

Authorities said Ochsner had a roughly 3.5-inch laceration on the left side of her head above her left eye and just below her hairline.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being medically cleared, she was transported to the Tillman County Law Enforcement Center.

At the sheriff’s office, Ochsner waived her Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions, the charging document says.

She allegedly told investigators that she had been in bed the night before when her husband returned from hunting at about 6:30 or 7 p.m. and dragged her from the bed before throwing her onto the floor.

“Jeff then grabbed her by the hair and began slamming her head into the floor, multiple times, causing the laceration and her head began bleeding,” the affidavit states. Ochsner reportedly said she did not believe she had lost consciousness before Jeff stopped, went into the living room and watched television.

Ochsner told police she remained on the floor for about two hours before cleaning up her blood and going to sleep at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to the affidavit.

Police said she woke up early the following morning.

At about 5:30 a.m., investigators allege, Ochsner went to the bedroom and took a .38 Special revolver from beside the bed.

“Jeff was laying face down in the bed,” the affidavit says. Ochsner allegedly stood at the foot of the bed and fired once. After he rolled from the bed onto his back on the floor, she reportedly saw that he was still breathing and shot him one or two additional times.

Ochsner remains held in the Tillman County jail on a $200,000 bond.
