Residents of Lago Vista, Texas, are raising eyebrows over a deer that seems to have adopted an “emo phase,” according to local police reports.

In late October, the deer was seen sporting a hammock entangled in its antlers, as detailed in a Facebook update from the Lago Vista Police Department. The hammock’s fabric cascades down both sides of the deer’s head, reminiscent of the layered, asymmetrical hairstyles favored by some emo musicians.

“Despite his ‘forest-core fashion’ catching some attention, there’s no need for concern—he’s doing just fine,” the police department assured in their social media post.

Officers from the Lago Vista Police Department have monitored the situation and consulted with experts at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to confirm the deer’s well-being.

“He’s eating, drinking, and strutting around as if he’s just released an album titled ‘Hammocks & Heartache,'” the department humorously noted, highlighting the deer’s apparent confidence.

The post further explained that male deer naturally shed their antlers by winter’s end, meaning this “emo-chic accessory” is expected to come off on its own in due course.

The police department also said in its post that residents should avoid interacting with the deer, per TPWD guidance.

“As difficult as it can be to see an animal with ‘hardware disease’ and want to help it, there are good, scientifically backed reasons why we do not get involved unless absolutely necessary,” police wrote in a Facebook update. “Darting animals in urban areas can be very high risk due to the number of people, roads, and houses, and the unpredictable nature of animal behavior.”
