Seattle robber bites off 88-year-old woman's finger during attack

An aggressive thief attacked an 88-year-old woman on the porch of her Seattle residence, biting off her finger in the process, as reported by local authorities.

The attacker, identified as a man in his 30s, targeted the elderly lady while she was cleaning items on her back porch in the Rainier Beach area on October 13, according to a statement from the Seattle Police Department.

Approaching her unexpectedly, the suspect demanded that she hand over her possessions.

Upon her refusal, the man assaulted her, forcibly dragging her into the garage where he continued the violent attack, ultimately biting off her finger and taking her jewelry, the police detailed.

When officers reached the scene, the victim recounted her terrifying ordeal, expressing that she genuinely feared for her life during the brutal incident.

She was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center with significant head injuries, while the suspect remains at large.

Police released images of the suspect dressed in all black with a hood over his head.

Police from Seattle, Burien and Tukwila have all helped in the search for the man.

There have been 2,659 aggravated assaults and 1,202 robberies in Seattle so far this year, according to police data.

Meanwhile, the city could elect one of the most left-leaning candidates in its history on Tuesday, as it continues to suffer from severe homelessness, violent crime and a budget crises.

Katie Wilson, 43, is attempting to unseat incumbent Mayor Bruce Harrell in Tuesday’s election.

The self–proclaimed progressive candidate has promised to ‘Trump–proof’ Seattle and focused her campaign on housing, affordability and transportation.

She scored a significant upset in the August nonpartisan primary when she ranked over Harrell.

Harrell has blasted Wilson’s previous comments about potentially defunding the Seattle police.

In a 2020 CascadePBS article titled ‘What defunding Seattle Police could look like,’ Wilson wrote that ‘less military gear, fewer officers, community investment’ should ‘be on the table.’

She added that ‘US police perform numerous functions for which armed personnel, trained for violent conflict, are unnecessary or unsuited — and often, unsurprisingly, cause harm.’

‘Can Seattle do all this? Can America do all this?’ Wilson asked.

‘There’s never been a better time to try.’

In March, Wilson told PubliCola that Seattle was experiencing a police staffing shortage but also needed more medical professionals and skilled social workers.

‘Right now, police response times are unacceptable, and I do think that in the short term, we need to hire more officers,’ she said.

‘I also think we need to greatly expand our unarmed response systems.’

A study of 15 major cities released in May by the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund found Seattle was one of the worst offenders as far as quelling post–pandemic crime.

The analysis read: ‘Every one of the 15 cities has seen its homicide numbers drop since 2021 — except Seattle.’

It also noted Seattle was the ‘only city that did not see any increase in police enforcement’ and that police officers there currently make 60 percent fewer stops than before the COVID pandemic.
