In a chilling case out of Amarillo, Texas, a man faces murder charges following a harrowing incident where his roommate was allegedly burned alive in an RV. This tragic event unfolded last week, leaving the community in shock.

The victim, James (Jaime) Sosa, was discovered lifeless on October 27 after firefighters managed to put out the early morning blaze, according to local reports from KVII. Court documents painted a grim picture, revealing that Sosa had been alive during the fire, evidenced by soot found in his trachea and airways.

Authorities have charged 46-year-old Luis Angel Rico, who lived with Sosa, in connection with the incident. Initially, Rico informed first responders that he suspected his roommate was trapped inside and mentioned a candle had been lit. However, investigators soon noted suspicious details: Rico’s hands were covered in soot, and he emitted a strong smell of gasoline. Despite these findings, Rico initially denied any involvement in starting the fire.

Rico recounted that he had been in the third-wheel trailer from 1 to 2:30 a.m., while Sosa was in his room watching television on his phone. He claimed to have seen smoke upon returning to the area around 5 a.m. and turned to a friend’s house to call 911. He added that upon hearing sirens, he returned to the trailer site.

Contrary to his account, investigators detected an accelerant on Rico’s right pants leg, coat sleeve, and shoes. This discovery significantly undermined his initial statements to law enforcement.

Currently, Rico is held in the Potter County Jail without bond, as reported by Law&Crime. The case continues to develop as authorities seek justice for Sosa’s tragic death.
