In a thrilling revelation on Thursday in Turin, Italy, the world’s leading tennis players, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, discovered the groups they will be competing in during the imminent ATP Finals.
This prestigious season-ending event, which showcases the top eight men’s singles and doubles players, is regarded as the most significant tournament following the four Grand Slams. It highlights the impressive results these athletes have achieved throughout the 2025 season.
Defending champion Jannik Sinner will lead the Bjorn Borg Group. Joining him are Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti. The final spot in this group hinges on the outcome of the ATP 250 title in Athens this week. If Musetti, currently ranked World No. 9, secures the title, he will advance as the eighth seed. If not, the position will be filled by Auger-Aliassime.
Meanwhile, the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz will spearhead the Jimmy Connors Group. This group promises fierce competition with the inclusion of 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic, along with Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.
Alcaraz, who previously reached the semi-finals in 2023, is eagerly pursuing his first title at these prestigious season-ending championships. In contrast, Jannik Sinner is looking to defend his crown, having triumphed undefeated in 2024.
The Jimmy Connors group is headlined by top seed Alcaraz. Joining him are 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.
Spaniard Alcaraz, who reached the semi-finals in 2023, is aiming for his maiden title at the season-ending championships, while Sinner was an undefeated champion in 2024.
Apart from Sinner, the other former champions at this year’s event are Djokovic (record seven titles) and Zverev (two).
The 2025 ATP Finals will be held from November 9 to 16 on the hard courts of the 12,000-capacity Inalpi Arena.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with the top two players from each group advancing to the knockout stage.
A record $15.5m total prize money is on offer at the tournament – an increase of $250,000 on 2025. An undefeated champion can earn a record $5.07m.
