Bystander allegedly stabbed during citizen's arrest in Melbourne CBD
A man has been taken into custody after one person was injured during an alleged stabbing at a shopping centre carpark in Melbourne’s CBD.

In the early hours today, a dramatic scene unfolded on Lonsdale Street as police reported an incident involving a man wielding a knife and behaving “erratically.” The unsettling episode occurred around 6 a.m., causing alarm among passersby.

The situation escalated when two brave bystanders decided to intervene. They pursued the suspect along Elizabeth Street, ultimately executing a citizen’s arrest near the intersection with Lonsdale Street. Their courageous actions led to the detention of the individual, a 32-year-old man from Dallas, who was shortly thereafter taken into custody by the police.

Unfortunately, the intervention did not come without consequences. One of the bystanders, a 41-year-old participant in the citizen’s arrest, suffered a stab wound during the confrontation. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that his injury to the lower body was not life-threatening. Meanwhile, the second bystander, a 35-year-old man, fortunately emerged from the ordeal unscathed.

A 32-year-old Dallas man was arrested by police shortly atfter.

One witness, 41, involved in the citizen’s arrest sustained a stab wound.

He was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to his lower body.

The second man, 35, was not injured in the scuffle.

No charges have been laid.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

There has been an increased presence across the city following an alleged stabbing on Little Bourke Street last month.

The Public Order Response Team (PORT) have increased patrols in Melbourne since the incident, police said.
