SAVANNAH, Ga. () – A dramatic weather shift is on the horizon as a robust cold front is set to transform this weekend’s pleasant, spring-like atmosphere into the chilly grip of winter by early next week.

Unseasonably Warm Weekend

Saturday will be reminiscent of early May rather than November, with temperatures soaring into the low 80s, surpassing the usual highs for this season. As the cold front approaches from the west, the warm, humid conditions could spark a few scattered showers or thunderstorms between noon and 5 PM today. By Sunday, the advancing front will edge closer, likely prompting another series of isolated showers and storms during the afternoon. Although widespread severe weather is unlikely, there’s a minimal chance that some storms could unleash strong winds and potentially escalate to severe levels due to the prevailing warm air.

Significant Temperature Drop on the Way

As the potent cold front ushers through on Sunday night, temperatures will take a steep dive. Monday’s highs will peak only in the mid-50s. By Monday night into early Tuesday, there is a threat of widespread frost or freeze, as temperatures plunge below the freezing mark overnight.

Concerns Over Frost and Freeze

The coldest temperatures of the season so far are expected Tuesday morning, when many locations could see lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. The record low for Tuesday morning is 29 degrees set back in 1943. It’s possible we tie or break this record. Highs on Tuesday will remain chilly in the lower 50s, and another frost or light freeze is possible again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Because of these conditions, Tuesday and Wednesday have been designated Weather Aware Days, and it’s important to remember to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing along with people and pets ahead of the cold snap.

Milder Weather Returns Midweek

After the early-week chill, temperatures will begin to increase by Wednesday, with highs returning to the mid-60s and overnight lows staying above freezing for the remainder of the week.
