PEORIA, Ill. (WCIA) – Detweiller Park in Peoria became a bustling hub of athleticism on Saturday as hundreds of runners from across Illinois converged for an exhilarating day at the 2025 IHSA state cross country meet. The event featured six intense races that showcased the dedication and skill of participants from the WCIA 3 viewing area.

Among the standout performances, the Glenwood girls’ cross country team delivered an exceptional display of endurance and teamwork. Securing the class 2A state title, the Titans placed three of their runners in the top ten, amassing a mere 81 points. This impressive score left their nearest rivals, Wheaton-St. Francis, trailing by 48 points.

Glenwood head coach Mike Garber expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, telling WCIA, “It means a lot. The journey of a cross country season is tougher than many realize. These girls put in tremendous effort over the summer and throughout the season. They faced challenges and external pressures, but until this day, no one knew what they could achieve. I’m incredibly proud of them; their success is well-earned.”

Senior Ashlyn Chopra led the Titans with a remarkable performance, finishing second individually with a time of 17:12.

Glenwood’s 81 points stood as the lowest score among all participating teams across every class at the meet. The next closest team total was achieved by Dixon’s 2A boys’ team, who captured victory with 115 points.

The Titans’ 81 points was the lowest total by any team, in any class, at Saturday’s state meet. The second best team total was Dixon’s 2A boys’ victory with 115 points.
