Jets takeaways, report card from NFL Week 10 win over Browns

Jets’ Analysis and Performance Evaluation Following NFL Week 10 Victory Against the Browns

Observations from the Jets’ 27-20 triumph over the Browns on Sunday offer insights into both victories and ongoing challenges.

1. While the Jets’ win provided a much-needed boost, it cannot entirely mask the ongoing issues within their offense. The spotlight remains on quarterback Justin Fields, whose performance raised eyebrows as he managed just 12 passing yards, excluding a 42-yard screen pass to Breece Hall. Fields failed to capitalize on the momentum from his impressive display against Cincinnati. Although a quarterback switch seems unlikely given the short turnaround before facing New England on Thursday, another poor showing might prompt the Jets to consider Tyrod Taylor for the matchup against the Ravens.

2. Post-game, Breece Hall revealed that coach Aaron Glenn is committed to utilizing him more prominently for the remainder of the season. However, this strategy needs to be implemented earlier in the games. On Sunday, Hall recorded 12 carries before the fourth quarter, then surged with nine more in the final period, including his standout 42-yard touchdown via a screen pass. The Jets struggled to find their offensive rhythm early on, partly due to extended kick returns. It’s crucial for the Jets to rely on Hall as their primary offensive catalyst from the outset, allowing him to make significant plays.

3. One of the most valuable yet understated acquisitions during Joe Douglas’ tenure has been kick returner Kene Nwangwu. His electrifying 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown provided a pivotal boost for the Jets and marked his fifth career return touchdown. Nwangwu’s challenge, however, remains his health; he only returned to action on Sunday after a concussion sidelined him against Cincinnati. When fit, his presence on the field poses a constant threat to score every time he handles the ball.
