Charges three months after 'amazing' man killed in alleged hit-run

A man has been formally charged nearly three months after his initial arrest in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident in Sydney’s north-west.

Fifty-one-year-old Dean Lovell was tragically discovered deceased on Springwood Road in Yarramundi, near Richmond, around 11:30 p.m. on August 11.

The day following the incident, Lovell’s grieving family spoke to 9News, describing him as “a wonderful man who loved his life and his animals,” and expressed their heartbreak, stating that the driver had “left an amazing person alone to die.”

That evening, authorities located a damaged black 2005 Ford Fiesta about 15 kilometers south in Glenbrook. They subsequently established a crime scene and impounded the vehicle for investigation.

On August 14, just two days after the crash, police arrested a 39-year-old man in Lithgow. However, he was released as the investigation continued.

Fast forward to this Monday around 4:30 p.m., police rearrested the same individual in nearby Cranebrook, taking him into custody at Windsor police station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death and refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday.
