'I was thinking, is this it?': Motorcyclist relives road rage attack
Police are hunting a man who apparently rammed and tried to rob and run over a Brisbane motorbike rider.

In an exclusive interview with 9News, Ruchir Awate recounted the harrowing experience he survived without injury. It all began unexpectedly when a red Mazda collided with him from behind as he sat waiting at a traffic light on Gympie Road in Aspley, a suburb in Brisbane’s northern area.

Awate’s action camera captured the unsettling sequence of events. Initially, he is seen pulling up to the lights, commenting on a strange interaction he had just experienced. Moments later, the footage shows him being abruptly knocked to the ground.

What followed was even more alarming. Rather than a simple accident, the driver’s subsequent actions suggested a deliberate attack. After the initial collision, the driver reversed and appeared to attempt running over Awate, who was already in shock from the fall.

Having managed to limp away from his fallen motorcycle, Awate found himself sitting by the roadside, struggling to process the situation. The video clearly depicts the Mazda reversing and then driving directly toward him, further escalating the incident.

Amidst the chaos, Awate’s disbelief and distress were evident. “What the f— are you doing, bro,” he exclaimed, his voice captured by the camera as he faced the oncoming vehicle.

“What the f— are you doing bro,” Awate can be heard saying on the video.

Awate said he feared his casual ride would come with a big cost.

“I think at one point my legs were under his car and my heart was just beating,” he said.

“I was thinking, am I – is this it?”

Not content with ramming Awate, the driver then attempted to rob him, picking up his dropped bag, which the rider eventually snatched back through the car window.

Phone footage taken from further away shows a still-helmeted Awate jump up on the curb, heading away from the road and towards a bush.

“I thought, it’s stolen or something, he doesn’t care about the car, he’s gonna go straight into me over the curb into the bush,” Awate said.

Police say the person registered to the car doesn’t match the person Awate described but they have a person of interest and hope to lay charges soon.

“I really do hope the police can track him down. I hope he understands what he’s done wrong and I hope he gets the charges that are coming,” Awate said.
