Authorities responded to a call at a residence on MacKellar Street in Casula around 2:20 am yesterday after reports of gunfire directed at the property.
According to police, numerous bullets were discharged into the unoccupied home.
It is reported that as many as 40 shots were fired before those responsible fled the location.
Investigators suspect that the attack was intentional and targeted.
NSW Police Superintendent Scott Tanner suggested that the incident might have connections to organized crime.
Tanner also delivered a stern warning to those believed to be responsible for the attack.
“There’s only two outcomes for the people who are involved in this, and that is they’ll either go to jail or be dead,” he said.
Nobody was home at the time of the incident and there are no reports of any injuries.
The family previously living at the home moved out weeks ago to begin renovations.
Investigators said a black Audi was seen driving west along Leacocks Lane following the incident.
Families on the street have been left shaken.
“I didn’t sleep after that. You don’t expect that that close to home, that’s not on,” one neighbour told 9News.
“We’ve got kids. As soon as I heard it, I covered his ears so he didn’t wake up.”
