An investigation is currently in progress following the sexual assault of a woman in her 80s at a park located in New South Wales’ Hunter region.
Authorities received reports that around 7:20 pm, the elderly woman was walking in Brooklyn Park, between Kilkenny Circuit and Chelmford Drive in Ashtonfield, when she was violently knocked down by a man who attempted to sexually assault her.
The assailant fled the scene on a scooter, after which the woman reached out to a family member who subsequently notified the police.
The victim was transported to a hospital for medical care.
Local detectives have launched an investigation into the incident and are seeking public assistance by releasing a description of a teenage boy who might provide valuable information.
The individual is described as being in his mid-to-late teens, with a dark complexion, and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who may have been near Brooklyn Park between 7pm and 8pm, is urged to call Maitland Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
