Childcare centre Mandurah up in flames

A man has been charged with arson after a Western Australian childcare centre went up in flames, resulting in $500,000 worth of damage.

A 35-year-old man is accused by police of igniting a blaze at a childcare center located on Truarn Street in Mandurah around 6:30 pm yesterday. The fire reportedly consumed several items, leading to significant damage.

The flames spread to a patio area and inflicted harm on the main structure of the facility.

This alleged arson incident is believed to have resulted in damages amounting to approximately $500,000.

Following the incident, the suspect was apprehended and faces charges of criminal damage by fire and burglary.

Authorities also claim that during the arrest, the man assaulted a police officer.

Consequently, he is additionally charged with assaulting an officer and two counts of obstructing officers.

The injured police officer was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The charged man will appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
