MTG left cancer-stricken dad to vote against Trump impeachment

In a striking revelation, Marjorie Taylor Greene recounted a poignant moment when she left her father’s hospital bedside, where he battled cancer, to cast her vote against Donald Trump’s impeachment. This personal anecdote was shared within the context of her recent resignation announcement, where she sharply criticized the former president.

The Georgia representative, known for her unwavering support of the MAGA movement, declared her intention to leave Congress at the end of her term. In her resignation post on social media, Greene did not hold back, describing Trump as ‘hateful’ and expressing a significant shift in her political stance.

Greene’s departure from her father’s side, as he underwent brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors, was a testament to her past loyalty to Trump. “I had to leave my mother’s side as my father had brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors in order to fly to Washington DC to defend President Trump and vote NO against the Democrat’s second impeachment in 2021,” she stated, highlighting the personal sacrifices she made for her political convictions.

The once steadfast ally of Trump has since experienced a growing divide with the former president. This rift has been fueled by disagreements over various issues, including Greene’s push to release the so-called Epstein files. This evolving dynamic underscores the complexity of political allegiances and the personal cost of public service.

‘My poor father and poor mother, it was all way too much.’

Since then a schism has erupted between Greene and the president, largely fueled by their clash over her calls to release the so-called Epstein files among other issues.

Greene was elected as Trump loyalist in 2020 and has been an outspoken supporter ever since.

She lost her father Robert Greene in 2021, the same year that Greene cast her vote against the Democrats’ move to impeach Trump on January 13, 2021.

The House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump for the second time almost five years ago for ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ related to the January 6 insurrection.

Greene was one of 197 republicans that voted ‘no’ on Congress’s motion to impeach Trump.

Despite her efforts the motion passed in the House of Representatives with 222 Democrats and ten republicans voting in favor.

But just one month later, the impeachment was shot down by senators who voted to acquit Trump for incitement of insurrection with votes 57 to 43.

Trump was the first US president to be impeached twice.

Greene’s father passed away months later in April 2021 after a three month battle with melanoma.

‘While I have endured the flaming arrows fired daily at me while I have been fighting against the left’s war on our freedom in Congress, my soul was torn apart watching my Daddy suffer and slowly die with cancer,’ Greene wrote on social media at the time.

She called her father ‘the forgotten American man that President Trump worked so hard for.’

However since then there has been a lot of love lost between the two.

After months of disagreement with her once beloved administration, Greene announced on Friday that she would no longer be a ‘battered wife’ and is stepping down from Congress.

She cited constant death threats and personal attacks as part of the reason for her departure.

Greene said these escalated after she publicly fell out with the president over the Epstein files.

The two traded jabs over social media last week which saw Trump brand Greene a ‘ranting lunatic’ who he dismissed as ‘wacky’.

On Friday the president quipped that Greene’s resignation is ‘great news for our country’.

Some republicans expressed their support for Greene, while others echoed Trump’s ridicule.

Fellow representative Thomas Massie wrote on X, ‘I’m very sad for our country but so happy for my friend Marjorie. I’ll miss her tremendously.

‘She embodies what a true Representative should be. Everyone should read her statement; there’s more honesty expressed in these four pages than most politicians will speak in a lifetime.’

Indiana Congresswoman Victoria Spatz added: ‘Unfortunately, there’s a lot of truth to what Marjorie had to say. I can’t blame her for leaving this institution that has betrayed the American people.’

Far right activist Laura Loomer unleashed a series of responses to Greene’s announcement on social media calling the congresswoman ‘a national disgrace.’

‘MTG decided to resign on January 5th, 2026. Her federal pension kicks in on January 3, 2026,’ Loomer posted.

‘It’s all about the money for her. Always has been. She’s doing this for the money. Expect to see her portfolio explode between now and January 2026. Marjorie TRADER Greene.’

In her seething final message, Greene called the current administration ‘hateful’ and even went as far as to say her own party was going to lose during the primaries next year.

‘I have fought harder than almost any other elected Republican to elect Donald Trump and Republicans to power, traveling the country for years, spending millions of my own money,’ she said.

‘Missing precious time with my family that I can never get back.’

After her last day in office on January 5, Greene said she planned to make up for that lost time and be with family.
