On Wednesday, a jury in Alabama delivered a guilty verdict against a man accused of sexually abusing a child in 2022.
Christopher Parker, 38, was found guilty of rape and child sexual abuse after the jury deliberated for four hours, according to AL.com. Parker’s arrest by Blount County authorities came in 2022 following allegations that he had sexually assaulted two children who were under the age of 12.
District Attorney Pamela L. Casey stated that Parker engaged in smoking marijuana and methamphetamine at the location where the abuse occurred, as reported by WBMA. Prosecutors explained that Parker was able to access the victims because he often stayed overnight at the residence.
During the trial, evidence was presented showing that Parker assaulted one of the victims while she was asleep on an air mattress. The victim disclosed the abuse to her grandfather, who was also her legal guardian, according to Casey.
Parker, who has previous convictions for burglary and theft, now faces a minimum sentence of 99 years in prison under Alabama’s Habitual Felony Offender Act. His sentencing is set for January 20, 2026.
