Picture anyone other than John Krasinski as Jim Halpert in “The Office.” Hard to fathom, isn’t it? Thankfully, the casting team made a wise choice, as Jim might have been brought to life by Josh Radnor, the actor we know as Ted Mosby from “How I Met Your Mother.”

Imagine someone else besides John Krasinski playing Jim Halpert in “The Office.” Impossible, right? Well, thank the casting gods for this wise decision, because Jim could have been portrayed by Josh Radnor, better known as Ted Mosby from “How I Met Your Mother.”

Radnor confessed he didn’t quite grasp the character’s tone, but he feels everything worked out for the best. It’s a compelling argument since the iconic Jim and Dwight interactions could have taken a different turn with another actor at the helm.

It’s widely known that numerous stars auditioned for key roles in the beloved workplace comedy. Who could overlook Bob Odenkirk’s audition, which offered a different flavor of Michael Scott than what Steve Carell ultimately delivered? Yet, Radnor wasn’t the only notable TV actor to consider playing Jim.

In March 2013, Rainn Wilson, the actor behind Dwight Schrute, shared a photo on his Facebook page featuring the sign-in sheet from the first day of auditions. This image not only showed Wilson as the first to audition for Dwight and Michael but also highlighted two prominent names who read for Jim.

Other notable TV actors also auditioned for the role of Jim Halpert

The first was Adam Scott, recognized from “Parks and Recreation” and “Severance.” Given Scott’s comedic background, envisioning him as Jim isn’t a stretch, though his portrayal would differ from Krasinski’s. The second was Hamish Linklater, known for roles in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Midnight Mass.” Undoubtedly talented, but would he embody Jim Halpert? Perhaps it was Krasinski’s destiny to play Jim, or merely stellar casting. Either way, audiences benefited from the outcome.

In March 2013, Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight Schrute in “The Office,” posted a picture on his Facebook page of the sign-in sheet for the first day of casting. Not only did this photo show that Wilson was the first person to audition on the day for the parts of Dwight and Michael, but it also revealed two big names read for the role of Jim.

The first name on the list is Adam Scott, who viewers will recognize from “Parks and Recreation” and “Severance.” Considering Scott’s comedy pedigree, it isn’t too difficult to see his name attached here, though his version of Jim would certainly be different from John Krasinski’s. The second name is Hamish Linklater, who appeared in “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Midnight Mass.” Again, a terrific performer, but is he Jim Halpert? Maybe it was destiny for Krasinski to play Jim, or just really good casting. Regardless, we — the audience — won in the end.
