Morgan Geyser, one of the two girls involved in the 2014 stabbing incident inspired by the fictional character Slender Man, is currently missing after removing her ankle monitor and fleeing from a halfway house in Wisconsin. The escape occurred on Saturday night, prompting a police search.
The Madison Police Department released a statement, accompanied by security footage, confirming that they are actively searching for the 22-year-old Geyser. According to the statement, she was last spotted around 8 p.m. on Saturday with an “adult acquaintance,” and her location remains unknown as of Sunday morning.
Back in 2014, when Geyser was just 12 years old, she, along with Anissa Weier, attempted to murder their classmate, Payton Leutner. They lured Leutner to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Geyser proceeded to stab her friend 19 times, narrowly avoiding a major artery. The girls claimed that they committed the act to gain favor with Slender Man, whom they believed to be real.
Leutner miraculously survived the brutal attack, managing to crawl to a nearby bike path where a passerby discovered her and called for help.
Both Geyser and Weier accepted plea deals and were subsequently committed to a psychiatric facility. Weier was released a few years ago, while Geyser was granted conditional release earlier this year, following expert testimony that she had shown significant improvement in her mental health treatment.
Geyser’s attorney, Tony Cotton, issued a plea to his client via Instagram Sunday evening.
“It’s in her best interest for her to turn herself in immediately and not continue with this course of action,” Cotton said. “We don’t know any of the facts about what happened or who might have assisted her.”
